Uh oh!

Yesterday morning Sonny woke me up begging to go out. Apparently he was too sleepy to go out when Forrest left, plus, it was way too cold. Usually when he wakes me up I just open the door and let him out into his fence and go back to sleep. Luckily, I actually looked out the door this time, because a TREE had fallen into the fence, crushing part of it! In my sleepy state, I thought "Oh well, he won't climb the tree to get out". Well, by the time I made it back to bed, I heard a squeaking sound--yes, he was climbing over the tree to get out! DRAT!!!

I think this tree was pretty dead, as evidenced by the ivy all over it.

Sonny's key to escape

Thank goodness the tree didn't damage the deck. Apparently the top hit the railing and shattered, since the tree was dead!
I had no idea what to do at this point. After his little adventure a few weeks ago I didn't want to let him roam wild all day (plus, that is against the law!) and I couldn't leave him inside because he gets board and starts "collecting" things, and I knew that the presents and tree ornaments would be first on his list! Thankfully, my Aunt Sue and Uncle John live nearby and they agreed to let me drop him off in their fence for the day until Forrest could fix ours. Sonny had a great time, but apparently barked all day, much to Uncle John's chagrin, since he was home sick! When Forrest got home, he was amazed at the size of the tree and that I didn't hear it fall. He chopped it up with his "saws all", and was able to rig it up to where Sonny can't get out (or at least I hope he can't--who knows--I have been at work all day!).  Let's hope we have no more calamities before Christmas!
Forrest's expert quick fix! Notice where Sonny is laying. I hope he was a good boy and stayed put all day!
