I'm Loving It!!

It has been a GREAT week--probably because it was only a 4 day week, but who know. Here some of the fun things I'm loving this week. There are LOTS! :)

Miss Alabama
My mom and I dropped my sister off at the airport this week with 4 suitcases and a dress bag. Where was she going? VEGAS! Yes, that's right, she is already in Vegas for Miss USA! I have no idea what they are doing out there for 3 weeks (other than getting tan and looking good) but I know she will have a blast and it will be an experience she will treasure forever. Have you been voting for her? PLEASE continue to vote HERE each day to help her earn a spot in the top 16!
Love you for this!!

New Shoes

After dropping my sister off on Wednesday mom and I used the opportunity to shop. I ended up getting 4 pairs of shoes--all totally necessary of course!

 photo kelly-katie-dsw-evening-shoes-jubilee-glitter-pump_zps5fc683af.jpg
Totally adorable champagne glitter pumps. I can't wait to wear these. The heel height is perfect for dancing. I simply cannot dance in sky high heels (or walk or stand or anything, for that matter).

 photo img-thing_zps692fb8c6.jpg
I actually did need new silver dressy shoes--a staple for any girl's closet! These look really high but they have a platform at the ball of your foot so they don't feel as high as they look. PLUS they are the MOST comfortable heels I have ever worn--seriously! I actually ordered these off line because they didn't have my size in the silver in the store, and I ended up getting them 10 dollars cheaper. Score!

 photo annmarino_zps7c68f469.jpg
Let's all take a moment of silence, please, for the wonder that is this shoe. If I could design a shoe for myself, this is what it would look like. Low but descent heel, rounded toe, appropriate for work, and a bow. I will always add a bow. There is actually elastic under the knot of the bow so you never actually have to tie it--it always stays perfect. I may be too scared to wear these--they are that beautiful. Plus, I got them on CLEARANCE. Having tiny feel pays off ONLY when it comes to the clearance rack.

 photo TB_11138641_203_zps155d64c3.jpg

These Tory Burch pumps were a surprising find. I had actually purchased 5 pairs of shoes at DSW and also ordered the silver shoes above. Then I went to Saks to try to find something special for myself. Forrest had won a $150 gift card for me and I hadn't used it yet. Well lo and behold, I walked right into their shoe clearance. Again, the perk of having tiny feet is the clearance rack--they always have cute shoes left in little sizes! I could have bought tons of shoes but I went with these Tory pumps. I actually needed a new pair of beige pumps and even though these look kind of yellow in the pic, they are actually beige. They fit perfectly, plus I paid like nothing for them since I had the gift card. Since I had already bought a pair of nude pumps at DSW I took them and 2 other pair that I wasn't in love with back. I felt REALLY good about my savvy shoe decisions!

OK--now which pair is your favorite??

The Great Gatsby

I LOVE this book! I think I have read it 4 times now. When I found out it was being made into a movie, I nearly flipped. Toss in Baz Lurman and Leo? I'm sold!! I went with Kelli, Kelly, Farrah, her mom, and my mom to see it on Wednesday in 3d and it did not disappoint. I loved the costumes and make up and glitz and glamour of the twenties. I loved the lingering shots on Leo, for no apparent reason other than to be thoughtful. I loved the Beyonce and JayZ songs sprinkled in. I REALLY loved how they stayed true to Fitzgerald's language--it's beautiful, it really is. If you haven't seen it, go this weekend!!

Leo in 3d? Yes please!

Best Friends
A big shout out to my BFF Farrah this week. Not only did we celebrate her birthday with dinner and Gatsby, which is reason enough to say "HEY" to her on the blog, but she did me a HUGE favor on Wednesday. While I was out of town, she picked up Ruffles from the groomers (which is out of the way) and then kept her all afternoon. It may seem small but it was a HUGE help to me. Ruff hates the groomers so I pick her up as soon as they call to say she is ready (they probably are super glad I do this because she acts like SUCH a diva when she is there). Thankfully, Farrah was available to help. She is always ready to help in any way she can and I totally appreciate it. She even doesn't mind when I break into her house and take things out of her refrigerator so I don't have to go to the store. It is just really nice to have a friend I can always count on. Happy birthday sweet friend!! Thanks for everything!

Healthy Dinners
On Thursday I whipped us up what I have to say was a terrific yet also healthy dinner. Check it out!

Poached Salmon with Pesto (From Can You Stay for Dinner)--love this girl--check out her blog!

1 lb salmon filet (I used frozen--I ALWAYS have frozen salmon in the freezer)
1/2 cup chicken stock
1/2 cup dry white wine
2 cloves garlic, sliced thinly
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup fresh basil pesto
1/4 cup crumbled feta cheese
Bring the chicken stock and wine to a gentle boil in a large dutch oven (any two inch deep pan with a tight fitting lid). (I just used my big skillet with the lid. I poured in extra white wine to make sure the fish was covered.)
Add the salmon filet and lay the garlic slices evenly over the top to coat the fish. Cover with the pan’s lid and let the fish simmer in the hot stock for 7 minutes. You’ll know it’s done when it flakes as you press the flesh with a fork.
Remove the fish from the pan immediately, discard garlic, and spread evenly with pesto while the fish is still hot. Sprinkle with feta. Serve.

Pea Salad
So I went on a veggie buying spree and wound up with snap peas, snow peas, and 2 portobello mushrooms. I found THIS recipe on Pinterest and so I just kind of modified the amounts (and decided to use the mushrooms this weekend).

8 oz snap peas
8 oz snow peas
4 oz feta (I used Athenos Garlic and Basil)
olive oil
slivered almonds
salt and pepper to taste
Wash peas and place on a baking sheet (I used a jelly roll pan since it has sides).
Sprinkle almonds on the peas (just as many as you would like-we like a LOT)
Drizzle (liberally) olive oil over the peas and almonds.
Sprinkle on the feta. I used the entire 4 oz container. Why not?
Add salt and pepper to taste
Bake at 425 for 10 minutes. Voila! Delicious!

 photo null_zpsb01f7bcf.jpg

This was really easy, fast, and delicious. I loved the sweetness of the peas mixed with the crunchy of the almonds and the tangy of the cheese. It was even good cold and would be a great salad type meal for lunch one day!

Fur Babies
My furry critters have been especially adorable this week!

My sweet Sonny boy LOVED being at the lake this past weekend!

Don Draper
Forrest decided to start watching Mad Men and I wouldn't watch with him because I don't like to start things in the middle. He remedied that by ordering Netflix so on Tuesday night we started with Season 1, Episode 1. Y'ALL--all I can say is I AM HOOKED. I can't figure this Don Draper out--he is such an interesting guy! All I want to do is watch this show. I've stayed up WAY too late watching every night. The only reason I haven't finished all of the episodes already is that Forrest falls asleep and I can't continue. That would mess up the process! I think it is supposed to rain Sunday so I'm planning a full day of Mad Men watching!

 photo dondraper_zps7f0f040c.jpg
Oh Don Draper, you are so cool. I just can't quit you!!

Sorry for this long, rambling, mish mash of a post! There was just so much to love this week!
What are you lovelies loving this week??? Let me hear from you!!

Too Much Sun

As I sit here typing this, I am precariously perched in my chair. Why? Because I totally fried the backs of my legs at the lake this weekend. When you have a sunburn, it seems like there is really no pain worse. I can't sit because it hurts, but when I stand, it hurts too. Pants hurt, skirts hurt, sleeping really hurts. We went out to eat on Tuesday after Davis' wedding and we sat in a booth and I had on a dress. Let's just say it took a while for me to peel myself up off of the seat to leave. Ouch! More than painful, getting a sunburn is just really, really, really dumb. I mean, you have to be living under a rock to have not heard about the terrible effects that over exposure to the sun can cause. (Want to see a really gross picture of what skin cancer looks like? Check out my girl Back East Blonde). According to, having 5 or more sunburns in your lifetime DOUBLES your chances of melanoma, the most common form of skin cancer. DOUBLES? (Ok, so who here has had less than 5 sunburns in their lives? I know I have, and I'm relatively careful and cautious about skin care.) For whatever reason, though, I see so many women around my age ignoring the research and the ads for sunscreen in favor of looking tan. I'm guilty of this too. When I was in college, I laid out all the time, slathered in SPF, and was tan pretty much year round (I was laying out in November at the campus pool on several occasions--do you understand why I love living in Alabama and HATE when it's cold now?) I don't ever remember getting burned and it was probably because I was very conscious and as much as I wanted to look brown, I also wanted to not look like a handbag when I turned 40. Now that I work and am inside most of the time during the day, I'm pale. I don't really mind that, but I do like my legs to look tan during the summer, for whatever reason. I suppose we are wired to think that tan is "in" and pale is "out". This mentality is what keeps people searching for the perfect tan each year, and what is increasing the incidences of skin cancer in women every day.
The worst part is that you don't have to be one of those sun worshiper types to get skin cancer. One mistake can get you burned and put you at risk for melanoma. Take me for example. I laid out every day this weekend so I could get some color on my sad little white legs. Since it was my first time in the sun this year, I slathered on the SPF 30. Points for me! I also wore a hat to keep my face, neck, and chest in the shade. More points! I was fine on the first day. Then on the 2nd day, Forrest and my brother interrupted my SPF lotioning process and I lost where I was and forgot to hit my left thigh and my left forearm and they got burned. That's just straight up dumb! Then the third day I was determined on lay on my stomach only since my leg and arm were red. (I'm giving myself points for this decision, but not many). After I skied I reapplied, but not immediately. I'm blaming the burn on the back of my legs on this fact. I dried off with the towel, rubbing off all of the sunscreen that hadn't already come off in the water (apparently), and then laid there until my legs started to feel a little tingly before thinking "maybe I should reapply." DUMB! I'm from the South, and I should know better, and honestly, so should everyone. I don't want to sound preachy or judgmental, but I do want everyone to be aware of what a little sunburn this summer can do to you for the rest of your lives! Here is a quick list of easy things to do to protect yourself from skin cancer.

1. WEAR SUNSCREEN every time you are in the sun! SPF 15 or higher is recommended!!
2. REAPPLY said sunscreen every 2 hours (yes, every 2) or after swimming.
3. Wear a hat! It protects your face, neck, and chest--the most sensitive areas!
4. The sun sees you even when you aren't in a swim suit! Wear make up with SPF in it every day (my Clinique Even Better Make Up keeps me covered). Lather up when you are going for your daily run, doing yard work, etc. Just because you aren't trying to get any sun doesn't mean it doesn't find you!
5. When you apply your sunscreen, do so in the house, not at the beach or pool. It's best to stand in front of a mirror before you put on your suit to make sure you get it everywhere. Your straps or bottoms might shift so you need to sunscreen places even the sun doesn't shine! Make sure to get sensitive areas like your neck, ears, eyelids, and the part in your hair! Wait 30 minutes or so before going out in the sun after applying so it dries and sinks in before you sweat it off.
6. Protect your peepers with sunglasses with polarized lenses.
7. For all you pet lovers, did you know that your pet can get sunburned and end up with skin cancer? White pets are more prone than others with darker coats. Please ask your vet if your dog or cat is at risk! I know my Ruffles' skin shows through her curls so even though she likes to lay out, we don't let her stay in the sun for very long so she won't get burned!

Any other tips for protecting yourself from the sun??? Share away!

Welcome to the Fam!

So on Tuesday, May 28, 2013, I got a sister in law! Forrest's brother Davis married Megumi in a civil ceremony and I have to say it was perfect. Judge Kimberley married them and it was SO moving. Sometimes the simplest things are the best. Davis actually clerked for Judge Kimberley when he was in law school so he is very close to him and his staff, so it was so very special that he performed the ceremony. Forrest said it best when he said that it now feels like the family is complete. I'm so excited for the both of them and look forward to all the fun times that lie ahead!

Memorial Day Fun

 photo memorialdayCollage_zpsf1e187da.jpg

Since it is 8pm and I'm just now getting my post up, I thought I would just do a pictorial view of our Memorial Day weekend! It was my first time to play around with picmonkey and clearly I didn't do that great of a job, since the first pic is upside down. Oh well--practice makes perfect!

From L-R, top to bottom

1. On Friday we celebrated Mr. Bailey's retirement at the high school where he has taught for 25 years! They grilled steaks and had a shrimp boil, and of course a cake! I actually did take this upside down to avoid a shadow, and then I couldn't flip it!

2. That night, we went to see my cousin Sara graduate from her high school as the valedictorian! She got to give a speech and it was perfect. I'm so proud of her!

3. Afterwards, we drove straight to the lake so the fun could begin. The moon was full and beautiful!

4. We kicked off Memorial Day Weekend with our annual Trade Day trip! Forrest, Hannah, and Roy were enjoying snow cones and I enjoyed discount shopping!

5. I spent the rest of the day (and the next 2 as well) trying to get some sun on my PALE body! It was so relaxing to sit still and do NOTHING!

6. Always active, Forrest and Sonny tried out their new kayak!

7. My perch for the weekend--isn't this chair fabulous? The hole for your face is perfect! Sonny kept me busy by bringing his ball to me so I could throw it in the water and he could jump in after it. I also tried to read Catch 22 but I'm having a hard time getting into it!

8. I tried skiing for the first time in probably about 15 years and I got up on the very first try and never fell! I used to be pretty good, so next time I think I will attempt to slalom. Here goes nothing!!

9. Like Ruffles, we were all EXHAUSTED after a fun weekend in the sun!!

Hope your weekend was just as wonderful! Thank you to ALL of our service men and women for giving the ultimate sacrifice so that we can stay free! God Bless America and God bless you!!

I'm Loving It!!

Happy Friday! All I can say is HOORAY! Who's ready for a long weekend? ME ME ME!! Here is a quick run down of what I'm loving this week!

Alabama Women Bloggers
I am SO excited to have been accepted as a member of the Alabama Women Bloggers! It is a sweet group of women dedicated to helping each other grow as bloggers. They have regional meetings and even a big state meetings and I am PUMPED to be included! Can't wait to meet all of the other blogging ladies!

Voting for Miss USA
I've been voting like a fool for my sister to earn a spot in the top 16 at Miss USA. I spend a good 20 minutes of each day voting for her 10 times with each of 4 email addresses (40 votes a day--woohoo) and another 10 asking others to remember to VOTE for her. Thanks to all of you who have voted and I hope you will continue to vote each day! Go Miss ALABAMA!!

Please vote for my sissy!!

..and just like that, it's time to complain about being hot in Alabama! It's been in the high 80's around here lately and I LOVE it, other than the fact that I had to turn on the air last night. High power bills are NOT something that I love. Bring on the flip flops, dresses, new bathing suits, and sunscreen!

New Bird Feeder
In honor of summer, Forrest bought this little bird feeder and hung it in the carport. It just so happens that we have a window that looks into the carport, and the cats have quickly realized that they can happily sit and watch birds eat ALL DAY LONG from the window. They are constantly running from the window into the den where they can see out of the doors to the deck. One night Brownie was going NUTS and was beating on the door to get outside. She had spotted a squirrel and she wanted at him! Granted, the squirrel was nearly her size, but she is a tough little thing! It has been so funny to watch them this week!

 photo null_zps60b279b0.jpg

Who knew this little thing could create so much enjoyment!

 Sirius XM Radio
No, they are not paying me to write this (although "Hi Sirius! You are welcome to sponsor me at any time!"). Forrest surprised me while I was driving back from the Kentucky Derby--he had turned my XM back on! Hooray! I LOVE LOVE LOVE the selection and they are always playing my favorites (ehem, Luke Bryan). No summer road trip is complete without it!!

I'm cheating here because I wanted to tell this story but I do NOT love snakes (as evidenced from THIS post). Clearly, no one likes snakes, am I right? You may not hate them and they may not bother you (my husband is this way--weird) but I mean, no one really LIKES them. Or at least, no one likes to be surprised by one--maybe that is a better statement? Ok so Forrest and I were walking on Monday night and it was just about dark. We were walking down the road heading home and Sonny started to sniff something in the grass. He kept putting his nose down and pulling it away, over and over. I freaked out and got Forrest to pull him away in case it was a snake. It was a lizard. Whew. I turned to continue walking and after about 3 steps Forrest yelled "STOP". With my right foot in  mid air, I looked down--I was about to step on a fat brown snake. Screaming of course ensued and I kind of danced to the left, where I almost stepped on Snake 1's friend, Snake 2. I kind of don't remember what happened at this point. I literally have nightmares about this very thing happening--the spotting of one snake and then the realization that they are actually everywhere--yep, straight out of my actual nightmares. I do remember acting like a total fool (I can maintain in just about any situation, except when snakes are involved) and begging Forrest to carry me home. There was NO way I was risking stepping on another snake. NO WAY. I am pretty sure they followed me home and therefore know where I live. My guard will NOT be let down--stay alert snakes--I'm on to you. Shout out to Farrah for offering to bring Justin's gun over so we could shoot them. Note to self: Catherine and Farrah with a gun is a far more dangerous situation than the spotting of 2 non-poisonous snakes. Remember this EVERY TIME.

I am NOT loving the devastation that was brought on by the enormous tornado that destroyed parts of Oklahoma early this week. I have honestly barely looked at pictures or watched the coverage on tv because it reminds me of the tornado that narrowly missed my sister in Tuscaloosa on 4/27/2011 and I literally get queasy. What I DO love is the outpouring of love and support that has flowed to OK. From bloggers (Venus Trapped in Mars, I'm looking at you), to celebrities (Kudos, Kevin Durant!), to just your every day average Jane, people have stepped it up this week and shown their compassion for their fellow man, and this makes me smile. It will be a long road to "normal" for OK, but with our help and support, it may be a little bit easier. Wondering how you can get involved? Check out THIS article.

Hope you guys and gals have a great LONG weekend planned!
Happy Memorial Day

Hi guys!! Have any of you heard of Operation Smile? They are a fantastic international charity that has provided over 200000 FREE cleft palate surgeries to children and teens all over the world. WOW! According to their website, every 3 seconds, a child is born with a cleft. Many of these children are in areas that are unable to provide them with the surgeries that they need, and therefore, many of these children die. Those that survive, however, have a hard future ahead of them. Many are unable to eat, speak, or smile. Some come from areas where they are shunned by the public and treated as outsiders. Enter Operation Smile! With help from their worldwide partners, they are able to provide the care that these children need in order to grow and thrive in over 60 countries for as little as $240 a surgery. Now this is a charity that I can get behind!! Please check out their website for a more detailed look into what they are all about!

One of their partners is, who approached me about doing this post about the great things Operations Smile is doing. contributes a portion of the rental of EACH one of their textbooks to Operation Smile. It's kind of like the Toms shoes of books, except they send money, not books. I know there are several college students out there reading and I hope you will consider ordering your books from instead of buying them for full price at your college's book store. Boo for full price, right?? Other perks of renting from CBR include:

-save 40-90% off of bookstore prices (cha-ching)
-free shipping both ways (yay!)
-can highlight in the textbooks (thank goodness)
-flexible renting periods

To my readers who have already graduated, did you have to have brand new text books while you were in college or did you try to get them on the cheap? I'm an on the cheap kind of girl. Maybe the first semester I was worried about having a very new book, but I quickly got over that once I got the receipt. I didn't see the point in paying full price when there were perfectly good used books out there to buy and rent! I always ordered them from text book sites online and I worried about when they would arrive, the shipping cost, etc. I really wish that I had known about CBR when I was in school I could have saved SO much money, paid zero shipping, had no worries about when they would arrive, and helped a fabulous charity in the process! I am definitely going to tell my cousin Sara and all of her little college bound friends about and I hope that they will want to support them in all of their efforts with
Operation Smile!

That One Time...

I am SO excited to be linking up today with my blogging bestie, Heavens to Meighan! I love the concept of this link up because you can take it just about anywhere--funny stories, embarrassing moments, celebrations, what have you. I'm going with the embarrassing moment angle, because I just had one recently that I'm not quite over! So with that, here goes nothing!!

Ok, let me set the stage. It's a warm and sunny Friday morning. One of the prettiest days we had had all year and I was so happy to be able to bust out some spring clothes for a change. I had a probation revocation docket that morning (if you don't know what that is, don't worry--it doesn't matter) so I had to look "courty".  Since it was finally spring, and a Friday, I went with a knee length green and white seersucker skirt (my favorite fabric--could wear it every day and in every color), a 3/4 length sleeve gauzy top with a cream tank under it, and a cardigan with pearls around the neck. Throw on some gold and pearl jewelry and some nude peep toe shoes and I looked like Legal Barbie, if I do say so myself. I am very conscious of the way I dress for work because I always want to look professional, yet cute and stylish at the same time. Hold onto that thought as I continue to tell this tale, if you don't mind!
The courtroom was packed when I got there--tons of lawyers, defendants, supportive friends, etc. I'm talking, one of the most crowded courtrooms I had been in in a while. I spent my time running around the courtroom, talking with the DA, the clerks, my new clients, and just chatting with other colleagues while we waited our turns. I know I had to go speak to the Judge twice, meaning my back was directly to the room. I was in there for over an hour before the call ended. On my way out, I spotted my uncle in the adjacent Judge's office so I went in to see what he was up to and ended up talking with the Judicial Assistant, Donna, for a bit. When we had caught up, I turned to walk towards the conference room, where my uncle had gone, and Donna says "OH CATHERINE". Instantly I knew. I don't know how or why I immediately knew what she meant, but I did. I had accidentally worn bright blue underwear under my skirt, which was VERY pale. I cannot BELIEVE that I forgot to change, I mean, I looked at myself in the mirror before I left! I was HORRIFIED and went back to her desk begging her to tell me that it wasn't that noticeable. Unbeknownst to me, there were 2 lawyers tucked away in the kitchen off of her office, and after I said something to the effect of "Maybe no one noticed", one of them said "what, your aquamarine underwear?". OH sweet heavens! I went straight home (crying all the way) to change. Thank goodness that Donna told me, because I had clients to see that day and tons of errands to run. Once I got over feeling really embarrassed, I got kind of upset that no one else told me. I mean, I was in a courtroom FULL of colleagues, and I'm sure someone saw. Give a girl a heads up next time, please?? Please, please tell me that I am not the only one who has ever done this?? It would make me feel SO much better! :)
Here are some pictures to prove that I usually don't do that:

Legally Blogging--Meet Katie!

The Legally Blogging idea was dreamed up by three ladies who all met in blog-land and instantly clicked. You could say it was love at first sight. The immediate connection stemmed from the one thing they had in common: Law. Obviously, as time went on, they discovered they had much more in common than just law, but that was a great starting point.

Here they are!

They decided to join forces and start a blogging series, to show that lawyers aren't always what you'd expect. The main goal of the series is to connect with other legal ladies out there and meet some great new people. Every week, the hope is to showcase a new person in the series.
Series so far:

If you're interested in participating in the Legally Blogging Series, just send an email to Jackie: jjstoughton [AT] gmail [DOT] com.

We'd love to have you on board!

Hi everyone! I'm Katie and I blog over at KTJ Weighing In  and I'm excited to be posting in this series of Legally Blogging today! So, a little bit about me is that like Jackie I'm also a Pittsburgher! I was born and raised right outside the city and I absolutely love it here. I went to college in Philly, but I found my way back to the Burgh for law school. I actually am a new attorney, I graduated from law school last year, took the July Bar Exam and thank goodness I passed on the first try!

See, don't I look official? I'm very happy that I'm finally done with school and working doing something that I enjoy.

So, on to the questions!

Why did you start blogging?
I started a blog on a whim, to be honest. One day I just sat down at the computer and decided I'd write a post. I just blog about my life and what is going on at the moment. At the moment I'm navigating life finally as a full fledged adult now that I'm done with school for good. And I'm trying to lose weight. While I was in law school all the studying and stress I definitely got to my highest weight ever. I've always been overweight, but after law school and the bar I was at my highest. I decided it was time for a change and started following Weight Watchers in August. After losing motivation and deciding I could use some support and accountability and started blogging. My weight loss has been slow, but I'm working on it. I've lost a total of 37.2 pounds so far and from graduation to now I can already see a difference!

What do you like to do when you're not blogging?
I absolutely love to travel! I have a goal to visit all 7 continents by the time I'm 40 and I only have 3 left! I also love to spend time with my friends, go to concerts (next up is Of Monsters and Men, Fun, and Justin Timberlake), and I love movies. I'm also a bit of a nerd, if being a lawyer didn't give it away, and so I love to read as well!

What do you find is the biggest misconception about lawyers?
Well, I see that this is a common answer, but I definitely think that the biggest misconception is that all lawyers are rich. That is definitely NOT the case. There is such a wide variety of legal positions that salary widely varies.

Also I think a few lawyers give the rest of us a bad name, so to speak. I'm actually a 3rd generation lawyer and back when my grandfather was living and practicing lawyers were greatly respected as a profession. I feel like times have changed in that regard. Now I think some don't appreciate lawyers until they need one. Now, I'm not saying that it is the greatest profession or anything, but I think some have given it a bad reputation.

Another big misconception is that all lawyers sue. Actually there are a lot of lawyers who have never filed a law suit. You can do so many things as a lawyer and there are so many options that not every lawyer you meet is practicing like the attorneys you see on TV.

What is your favorite vacation that you've ever been on?
My favorite vacation is probably when I went to Fiji. I studied abroad in Australia and on the way home I stopped over at Fiji with a few friends. It was amazing! Paradise.

So that's a little be about me! Thank you again for allowing me to participate!

Weekend Shenanigans

Well it's 2pm and I'm just now getting around to posting for today, when usually, I do my Monday post on Sunday night. This is just a testament to how crazy of a week AND weekend we had! I REALLY needed a sleep late day but that is just not going to happen!

FIRST, a few housekeeping matters:
1. Have you voted for my sister, Miss Alabama, for Miss USA yet??? PLEASE vote 10 times per day! I really want her in the top 16 and you could earn her a spot!

2. Don't forget my South giveaway! The necklace is adorable--you really really need it to go with your summer wardrobe!

3. A BIG thank you to all of you for being so sweet and supportive of Forrest and his new dental practice, and a HUGE thanks to those who entered the giveaway in his honor. The winner was Cyndi Nelson!! Go have a nice dinner on me, girl!!

Ok, now we can get to the weekend!
After a long trial week I left work early for a little R&R on Friday!

Yes, I ate and drank all of this at 2pm on a Friday afternoon.

Ruffles and I camped out on the couch all evening catching up on the DVR.

On Saturday I had to take my wedding band for a little check up (I broke a prong and lost a little diamond!) and also bought some brand new running shoes! Forrest bribed me into do the 5k by promising me that I could get new shoes. Of course, I took this challenge!! They are pink and black and gray and of course, there are some sparkles in there too. I'll show them to you later this week!

I was home by lunch time and Forrest grilled some left over burgers--yummy! I always give myself a pat on the back when I think ahead and make extra to freeze--go me!
I had a little time so I took advantage of the sun and laid out while I caught up on some magazines. I am as pale as this page and I needed some SUN! I'm not huge into tanning and I'm always slathering on the SPF, but I do like having a little color!

Ruffles was feeling a little pale too.

That evening we had supper club at the Hayes. I know I say this every month, but I LOVE our supper club. Everyone is so real and down to earth and easy to be with and FUN! The Hayes made a "Southern" meal of fried catfish, slaw, baked beans, and trifle! Yummy! I took zero pictures, probably because I was too busy drinking sangria. Oops!

On Sunday we hit the ground running. We got to see Naomi Rose get baptized at church, and then we had lunch with the Yeungs. It had been AGES since we had hung out so a lunch was definitely in order! Afterwards we went to the tennis courts to see our friend Hannah in a tournament championship. I had no idea what was going on but she won! Hooray!
Next, I had the Panhellenic Tea. This is one of my favorite events of the year because it helps our senior girls get ready for recruitment. It was extra special for me this time because my cousin Sara was there--I can't believe that girl is heading to college in the Fall!!
Later that day, it was a long overdue grocery store trip (where I loaded up on fresh produce---thank you summer!), before we went to Sara's graduation party.

My mom made these cute arrangements with pictures of Sara throughout the years coming out of the top. I thought they were fabulous!

Hannah (the tennis champion!) Sara, Emily, and Me. I have been friends with these girls ever since they were born. They are life family! (well, Sara actually IS family)

Yay for Sara and yay for cake!

We were bouncing all over the place this weekend but it was SO much fun because we got to be with SO many friends! Thanks for stopping by, and I hope you have a great week lined up!

The weather has been SO nice lately, that I've been opening the windows for a while in the evenings once Forrest gets home. Brownie took advantage!!

   photo null_zps47fd0af4.jpg
I made this turkey sausage ratatouille on Monday night--one of my favorite dishes! It is chocked full of veggies and good stuff! I hadn't really cooked in a while and it felt great to get back in the kitchen!
