Totally owning Christmas

Who doesn't love Christmas? I mean probably no one, right? But who cringes as soon as Hobby Lobby starts putting up the Christmas decor? Me. There is so much more to Christmas when you are a grown up (and heaven help me, I don't even have kids yet) that makes it very stressful. The cards, the gifts, the treats--all of that takes time and money and makes me want to pull my hair out. After working all day I really don't want to shop and it really takes forever to choose a suitable Christmas card photo, holiday baking makes a giant mess of the house and I always end up screaming at something or someone while I'm wrapping the 8 million presents I bought after work. There, I said it. I feel better. I really HATE this quality about myself because again, who can actually hate Christmas? Again, no one. SO, in an effort to be jollier and more Santa-like and joy-spreading, I decided to start Christmas early this year. I have to admit, I'm totally owning it right now--booya! Here is what I have been up to...

Online shopping, beyotch. I have never shopped for Christmas online. I do try to pick up items during the year for people, but you can't find everything. This year is going to be totally different because I found Joss and Main. OMG--have you people discovered them yet? I'm sure I'm late to the party but I'm obsessed. I have the app on my phone so when I'm sitting around waiting for my turn at court I am actually shopping! I have gotten nearly everything I need AND free shipping! Plus, it's like Christmas every time the delivery truck comes! I will probably have to run out and get a few things at the actual store but at least I know that now. Plus, I know exactly who is still left on my list and I can decide what to get them pre-shopping and hopefully just run in, grab said item, and get out of the crowds.

Christmas card list updating
Oh this always takes me forever. I love sending the cards and usually can make it online from work one day during a lull, but the actual list is a mess. I have the list consolidated down to labels now, which is a huge time saver, but before I print them I always have to send about 80 text to people I know who moved. This year, I updated the list on a slow day in October and now when the cards arrive, all I really have to do is stuff and label them. Hooray!

Yes I started wrapping presents in October--and hiding them in my car. I wrapped them as I got them in the mail! Now I won't have to scurry around doing it in December, nor will I scream and throw things when I can't find the tape because I'm sitting on it. The main thing about wrapping to share is that I buy my wrapping paper the day or weekend after Christmas. It goes on sale then and I get everything--paper, boxes, bags, tissue, bows, the works. I try to get neutral paper for non Christmas gifts but of course you have to have Christmas paper for Christmas so I get that too. That way I have one less thing to worry about come December (or October this year)

Have you started getting ready for Christmas? What do you do? What am I leaving off of my list that I need to do?

  1. Christmas...I love Christmas!! And have let it stress me out more times than I'd like to admit. Just remember it's not about the gifts, the treats or the cards. This year I am not stressing and am going to enjoy myself and my family.

  2. Shopping on-line is the BEST. You can get so much done so fast! I haven't started shopping yet but I need to... I'm starting to get anxious!!!!

  3. This post made me realize I need to start updating addresses NOW! Being a military, we've created a little "military family". But this means that more than half our friends have moved since last Christmas. I need to get on getting current addresses for Christmas cards. Thanks for the reminder!! And maybe start getting ideas and shopping for gifts!

  4. You've never done your christmas shopping online? It's pretty much all I do now. I have Amazon Prime, and it is TOTALLY worth it. :)

  5. you are so on it! i mean to start early every year but then i end up being last minute ahh. maybe in the next few weeks before thanksgiving, i can at least start on a few little things. fingers crossed!

  6. Might as well enjoy the season. That's what it's for. We enjoy Christmas but we don't "do" it. The husband bakes because he loves to but we do a simple gift exchange among family so I don't do much shopping at all and I haven't sent out holiday cards in years!!

Thank you so much for taking the time to comment! I read each and every one of them and they always make me smile!
