These are my confessions...what I think about in yoga

I just started going to yoga a few weeks ago and I'm hooked! However, I don't know that I've gained total control over my mind just yet, as I'm always thinking a mile a minute! A typical yoga class, in my brain, goes a little like this...

"'s so nice to sit still for a while..."

"Breathe in, breathe out, breathe in, breathe out"

"These stretches feel sooooooo good"

"But I should probably wear flats to work tomorrow because my legs will be sore. Which flats? Which outfit? What do I have to do at work tomorrow...."

"Wait, am I breathing? I can't remember how to breathe at all! In out in out in out in out"

"I am KILLING this pose--oh wait--wrong foot"

"Who came up with this music? Who decided that THIS was yoga music? Who sings/writes/produces said music?"

"Surely I look better than that guy in the back"

"Does my butt look big during downward dog?"

"I hope I don't have to go to the bathroom"

"Of COURSE I can do the modification! I'm AWESOME at yoga!" (fall, while guy in the back nails it)

"Streamline, find your center" (a line off of Uptown Girls, starring Dakota Fanning and Brittany Murphy)

"Why can't I quit thinking????"

"Quit thinking quit thinking quit thinking quit thinking" (don't stop thinking, obviously)

"I wonder if this is how Charlotte felt in acupuncture with Dr. Mao?" (SATC reference, duh)

"Now I have to go to the bathroom! STOP THINKING ABOUT THE BATHROOM!"

"Seeing the world through my mind's eye....oooooommmmmmmm"

"OWWWWWWWWWW this hurts" (look at Farrah and mouth cuss words)

"I wonder how much longer?"

"What's for dinner? Do I want wine or dessert? Or maybe a milk shake on the way home?"

"Oh it's time for meditation? I ROCK at the corpse pose!!"

"Don't fall asleep and embarrass yourself"

"I don't want to get up--let's all just lie here another 10 minutes--or until the morning?"

See? That's not very zen and yoga like. I'm working on it, I promise. I try to concentrate during the poses but I find myself worrying about what I look like the whole time. Although, I've noticed that I feel a lot more relaxed doing the poses I've already mastered and so I can really let go during those. To me, that means I just have to keep going to the class so I can get more comfortable and ultimately get the most out of it. Wish me luck!

  1. This is so funny. I've been going to yoga for a few years now and I definitely still think way too much in classes. And I have fallen asleep and I may have been snoring. Not trying to scare you, just trying to prepare you! But I don't even care because I think some of my best naps have been in that room!

  2. I can't concentrate during yoga either! I never learned the life skill of being able to turn your thoughts off. I'm very jealous of people who have this skill.

  3. I ALWAYS worry about my exercise pants being see-through. The number of times I've had to bend over in front of my sister in various lighting is kind of ridiculous, but who else can do the fanny check for you?!

Thank you so much for taking the time to comment! I read each and every one of them and they always make me smile!
